Summer Pottery Classes for Teens (Ages 13 - 16)

Taught by Cam | July & August |

Includes a custom handbuilding zine to take home!

Looking for a creative outlet for your teen this summer? Our Teen Handbuilding Pottery Class is a 4-week ceramics program designed for ages 13–17 who want to explore clay through sculptural and functional art-making. Taught by educator and artist Cam Hill, this class gives teens the tools, space, and encouragement to express themselves while learning real ceramic techniques in a relaxed and welcoming studio.

Course Breakdown:

Week 1 – Intro to Handbuilding
Students will explore foundational techniques including pinching, slab-building, and coiling. They'll create functional pieces like mugs, plates, or small vessels while learning essential tools and terminology.

Week 2 – Sculptures and Abstracts
Building on the basics, teens will experiment with larger, more creative forms. This session focuses on sculptural work and abstract thinking, encouraging students to let clay guide their process.

Week 3 – Refining and Adding Dimension
Students will refine their previous work, learn to work with leather-hard clay, and add thoughtful details like sculptural elements, texture, and attachments.

Week 4 – Glazing and Decorating
In the final class, students will apply underglaze and custom studio glazes to finish their pieces. Completed work will be fired and available for pickup after the final session.

Why this class is great for teens:

  • Builds creative confidence and tactile skills

  • Encourages self-expression and mindfulness

  • Offers a screen-free, hands-on learning environment

  • Taught by a trauma-informed, experienced youth educator

  • All materials and firings included

Please Read our Studio Policies before purchasing your workshop.
