KIDS & TEENS CLAY PLAY
These summer pottery classes not only teaches your child the basics of handbuilding pottery through simple techniques; but it further explores the relationship of art and nature.
Through age appropriate questions, we ask and learn: how can we respect and understand the materials we work with? How can we use art to regulate us when we feel stressed? How to use pottery as function and art?
This program is designed for children to explore and play, while learning about the earth and themselves, in a safe and inviting environment!
MEET THE TEACHER
These classes are conceptualized by Cam, who has experience working both in schools and teaching ceramics. Cam was the founder of SWAMP Collective, a Vancouver based ceramics studio hosting a variety of pottery classes before transitioning to becoming a teacher. From 2024-2025, Cam has worked at Saplings Nature School~ an independent outdoor school in North Vancouver, which focused on fostering children's identity through outdoor exploration and learning through community with nature as a co-teacher.
As Cam steps away from this role at the school while they attend university, they wanted to combine their love of teaching, ceramics, nature, and working with children.
By witnessing the effect that a strong relationship to nature had on kids through their time at Saplings, Cam believes that similar concepts can be taught over many avenues of a child’s development and self identity, including pottery.
